Creating radical safety means challenging standard definitions of safety that too often center the comfort and capital of white people. So how can we start reimagining safety through a restorative justice lens, ensuring that we prioritize the needs of our Black and brown community members while also protecting marginalized folks from the harmful impacts of white supremacy and other systems of oppression? In this episode, I explore why shared social identities and generic community rules fail to create real safety, my personal experiences with harm in self-proclaimed ‘safe spaces’ within academia and what your responsibility is in shifting towards more radical safety creation in your own small business or organization.
